Dr Alcuri was born in Queens NY, the first son of two Juilliard-trained concert pianists and the grandson of a silent movie orchestra violinist. He grew up in and around New York City, in the music and arts community. Choosing to bow out of the family tradition and pursue the sciences instead, he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology. He went on to medical school at SUNY Health Sciences Center, Syracuse NY. Internship and residency training were at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Wyler Children’s Hospital and LaRabida Children’s Hospital and Research Center. He went on to a fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. After a few years in Pediatric Oncology, for personal reasons, he chose the less intense path of the primary care pediatrician. He opened his Frederick practice in the fall of 1993, and has been there ever since. Personal interests include horses – he successfully completed his late Hanoverian mare, Essenz, through second level dressage – and scuba diving, where he recently joined the handful of people in the world who have given tummy rubs to sharks.
